• Descrizione: Sodium tetradecyl sulphate (STDS) is an anti-infective agent that has been shown to be effective against a variety of bacterial strains. STDS is used to treat infectious diseases caused by gram negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. STDS inhibits the growth of bacteria by inducing cell lysis in a process called membrane perturbation. In addition, STDS has minimal toxicity and high resistance to drug-resistant strains of bacteria. This antibiotic can be used in topical formulations for the treatment of alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. The mechanism of action for this antibiotic is unknown, but it may be due to its ability to induce cell lysis.
