Descrizione:Sultamicillin tosylate is an antimicrobial agent, a prodrug of the antibiotic ampicillin. It is used for the treatment of acute and chronic infections, such as bowel disease or chronic bronchitis. Sultamicillin tosylate has been shown to be effective in treating both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The drug is metabolized by hydrolysis in the gut wall and liver to ampicillin. It is excreted mainly in the urine. Sultamicillin tosylate also possesses anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
