Sarcosine amide hydrochloride is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have a wide range of biological properties. It inhibits the activity of oxidases and has been shown to have an antidepressant effect in rats. Sarcosine amide hydrochloride also inhibits the growth of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and has been shown to be effective against Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This drug is being investigated for its potential use as a carbapenem antibiotic.
