Descrizione:Thionyl chloride is a reactive, colorless liquid that is used as a chemical reagent and industrial solvent. It reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid and hydrogen chloride gas. Thionyl chloride is also used in the synthesis of trifluoroacetic acid, which is an important precursor for the production of fluorocarbons. The model system for this reaction was ATP-binding cassette transporters in the human bowel. In this system, thionyl chloride reacts with p-hydroxybenzoic acid to form an intermediate that reacts with chloride ions to produce the desired product. Thionyl chloride has been shown to have receptor activity against inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus type 2 and obesity.
