It has been shown to be effective against cervical cancer cells, and the reaction mechanism is thought to involve the formation of a reactive oxygen species. Thiophene-2-carbonyl chloride also has antiinflammatory properties, which are most likely due to its ability to inhibit adenosine A3 receptor activity.
