2-(Trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid (FTFA) is an organic compound that is used as a pesticide. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of amyloid fibrils, which are thought to contribute to Alzheimer's disease. FTFA is immobilized on different supports and then reacted with l-phenylalanine in order to synthesize the final product. The optimal reaction time is 1 hour at pH 9.5 with sodium carbonate. FTFA can be covalently immobilized on surfaces such as glass, polystyrene, and silicon oxide by reacting it with epoxy groups or amino groups.
