The equilibrium constant for the reaction with pyridine-3-carboxylic acid is 1.0. It has been shown to form a large variety of carboxamides, carboxylic acids, and alcohols with yields of over 60%. Thiophene-2-carboxylic anhydride is a low energy molecule that can be activated by electron withdrawing groups such as nitro and chloro substituents.
