Descrizione

Gamma-tocotrienol is a natural compound that belongs to the vitamin E family. Gamma-tocotrienol has been shown to induce autophagy, or cellular recycling, in cancer cells. This activity may be due to gamma-tocotrienol's ability to inhibit the activities of certain enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of new proteins and lipids, leading to cell death by apoptosis. Gamma-tocotrienol has also been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells, particularly those that are resistant to chemotherapy. This activity is due to gamma-tocotrienol's ability to induce a change in the mitochondrial membrane potential of cancer cells, which prevents ATP production and leads to cell death. Gamma-tocotrienols may also inhibit human CYP3A4 (a cytochrome P450 enzyme) and increase fetal bovine serum concentrations of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2).
