• Descrizione: 4,4-Tetramethyleneglutarimide is a drug that inhibits the activity of GABA transaminase. This enzyme is involved in the metabolism of the neurotransmitter GABA to succinic semialdehyde, which is then converted to succinic acid and propanediol. 4,4-Tetramethyleneglutarimide has been shown to be effective for treating bowel diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. It is also used for treating liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis C and cirrhosis. The oral bioavailability of 4,4-tetramethyleneglutarimide is low, so it can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly. The drug binds to 5-ht2 receptors in the brain and may help relieve symptoms related to serotonin deficiency such as depression or anxiety (5-ht1a).
