Trigonelline is a natural compound found in plants belonging to the family of Fabaceae. It has been shown to be a potent activator of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and induces an inflammatory response in biological samples, such as macrophage cells. Trigonelline also has anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to inhibit neuronal death. The hypoglycemic effect of trigonelline may be due to its inhibition of glucose uptake by cells.
