It is a guanine analog that binds to the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of bacterial cells and inhibits protein synthesis by attacking the 4-chloropyrimidine moiety of nucleoside monophosphates. 2-(Tributylstannyl) pyrimidine also has antiviral properties and acts as an inhibitor of vitamin B1, which is required for the synthesis of DNA.
