Triaminoguanidine hydrochloride is a white crystalline powder. It is used as a catalyst in the treatment of wastewater and for the removal of chlorides from metal surfaces. Triaminoguanidine hydrochloride has been shown to be effective in the treatment of hydrochloric acid, nitrogen-containing wastewater, and alkylthio group-containing wastewater. This compound can also be used as an aminoguanidine substitute, which is a chemical that is used to control metathesis reactions involving organic compounds. The reaction products are chlorides and triaminoguanidine, which are both water soluble. Kinetic data shows that the transport rate of triaminoguanidine hydrochloride is high when compared to other aminoguanidines.
