1,4,7-Trithiacyclononane is an organometallic compound that is used as a ligand in coordination chemistry. It has a redox potential of +1.15 V (vs. SHE) and a redox potential of -0.32 V (vs. SHE) when it is bound to copper ions. 1,4,7-Trithiacyclononane can act as an electron donor or acceptor depending on the oxidation state of the metal ion with which it is associated. The molecule has been shown to have stable complexes with oxygen and nitrogen atoms and can bind to mitochondrial membranes at high concentrations (>5 mM). When bound to copper ions, 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane forms crystalline structures with x-ray crystal structures that are not observed when the metal ion is nickel or palladium. This molecule also has photochemical properties with conformational properties that depend on its environment. 1,
