3,4-Thiophenedicarboxylic anhydride (TCA) is a photochemical compound that is used as a precursor to other chemical compounds. It has been shown to undergo cleavage and cyclization reactions when irradiated with light. TCA can be converted into sulfides, thiophenes, or anhydrides by reaction with sulfur, phosphorus, or oxygen respectively. TCA is also a precursor to the synthesis of many organic compounds such as dyes and pharmaceuticals. In addition, it has been shown to have potential energy for bond cleavage and anhydride formation.
