Tetraheptylammonium iodide is a salt that is soluble in water. It is used as a catalyst for organic reactions, such as cross-coupling reactions. Tetraheptylammonium iodide has shown to be an effective treatment for benzalkonium chloride-induced corrosion. It can be used in concentrations of 0.5% or less and at temperatures of 60°C or less to prevent the corrosion of metals such as stainless steel, aluminum, and copper. Tetraheptylammonium iodide is also used in the treatment of sodium phytate-induced corrosion and has been shown to be a solid catalyst for many organic reactions.
