• Descrizione: m-(Trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid is an inhibitor of the enzyme, carbonyl reductase, which is involved in the biosynthesis of prostaglandin E2. m-(Trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid was found to be potent and specific for this enzyme, with no effect on other enzymes such as cytochrome P450. The compound inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterium that grows in many types of environments. This antibiotic has been shown to inhibit the production of tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and serum enzymes, such as dismutase activity, in mice with lung cancer. This drug also has a toxic effect on respiratory system cells, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis.
