Descrizione

5,7,8-Trihydroxyflavone is a flavonoid with potent inhibitory properties. It inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in vitro by binding to the protein receptor for IL-1β. 5,7,8-Trihydroxyflavone also has antiinflammatory activity in an experimental model system for bowel disease. This flavonoid inhibits the activation of signal pathways that lead to apoptosis and cell death. 5,7,8-Trihydroxyflavone also prevents oxidative damage to proteins and lipids and protects against lipid peroxidation in cells. The compound is found naturally in many plants such as milk thistle (Silybum marianum) and black tea (Camellia sinensis).
