Trichlorocyclopentylsilane is an organic compound that is used as a cross-linking agent in the production of polyurethanes. It is a colorless, oily liquid with a boiling point of 194°C, and can be obtained by reacting cyclopentyl with glycol ether, chlorine atom, and hydroxyl group. Trichlorocyclopentylsilane reacts with cationic surfactants to form cross-links that are used to give polyurethanes their water resistance. The reaction of trichlorocyclopentylsilane with unsaturated ketones produces unsaturated ketones. Unsaturated ketones have been shown to be useful for microscopy studies because they fluoresce when exposed to ultraviolet light.
