It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. 1,2,3-Trifluoro-5-vinylbenzene also inhibits the growth of human cancer cells with IC50 values of 0.1 microM for HeLa cells and 0.4 microM for MCF7 cells. The mechanism of action is not yet well understood but may involve binding activities or biological properties such as inhibition of RNA synthesis or protein synthesis.
