Tri(3-fluorophenyl)phosphine is a gas sensor that can be used to detect aldehydes in the atmosphere. It is synthesized from 3-fluorophenylphosphine and hexacarbonyl nickel in the presence of a base. Tri(3-fluorophenyl)phosphine has also shown to be selective for monosubstituted aldehydes and was used to study their reactivity.
