3,4-Dichlorobenzophenone is a sterically hindered dipole that can react with a wide range of electrophiles. It has been used as a solid catalyst in Friedel-Crafts acylation reactions and benzoylation reactions. 3,4-Dichlorobenzophenone is an isomeric compound with the molecular formula C6H3Cl2O. It can be converted to 3,4-dichloroaniline by chlorination and to 5,6-dichloroquinoxaline by nitration. 3,4-Dichlorobenzophenone is reactive because it contains a reactive carbon center (C=C) and electron withdrawing groups (-Cl). The steric interactions between the chlorine atoms and the adjacent carbons make this molecule difficult to penetrate. This steric interaction makes it possible for 3,4-dichlorobenzophenone to react with other molecules that are also unable to penetrate
