6-Methoxy-4-methylcoumarin (6MM) is a coumarin derivative that has been used as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. The molecule absorbs light in the visible region and displays vibrational spectroscopic properties. 6MM has been shown to have antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to scavenge radicals. It also inhibits the formation of calcium carbonate crystals and prevents their accumulation on teeth, which may be due to its ability to inhibit crystal growth. 6MM has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory activities in vitro by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
