Dihydrorotenone is a natural product that has been shown to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects. It inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species, inhibits the p38 signaling pathway, and reduces the mitochondrial membrane potential. Dihydrorotenone is also an inhibitor of endoplasmic reticulum stress and is a diagnostic agent that can be used to identify metabolic disorders. This compound has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial respiratory chain enzymes in animals. Dihydrorotenone binds with high affinity to the ATP synthase enzyme in mitochondria, inhibiting ATP synthesis and causing cell death by lowering the mitochondrial membrane potential.
