It inhibits the activity of RNA transcriptase and DNA polymerase, which are enzymes involved in the synthesis of viral nucleic acids. 5,6-Dihydroxyflavone also prevents the replication of virus particles. This compound has been shown to be effective against murine leukemia virus and other viruses that infect mice. 5,6-Dihydroxyflavone can be extracted from plants such as Baicalensis (a type of Chinese medicinal herb) or made synthetically in a laboratory.
