Tripropargylamine is a copper complex that reacts with dna duplexes and inhibits their formation. This chemical has been shown to react with azides, hydrogen bond, and amines. Tripropargylamine has also been shown to be an irreversible inhibitor of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in vitro and in vivo. The addition of tripropargylamine to HSV-infected cells disrupts the disulfide bonds between proteins, leading to the inhibition of viral protein synthesis. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the replication of HSV in rat liver microsomes in vitro and in vivo.
