Ecliptasaponin D is a saponin that belongs to the group of triterpenoid saponins. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and matrix metalloproteinases by inhibiting the release of these proinflammatory cytokines from immune cells. Ecliptasaponin D also increases mitochondrial membrane potential and decreases reactive oxygen species production, leading to cell death by apoptosis. This compound has anti-tumor effects and can be used for the treatment of cancer. Ecliptasaponin D has also been shown to have a growth factor-β1 (GF-β1) stimulating effect, which may be due to its ability to stimulate colony-stimulating factor activity in human leukocytes.
