Octatetracontane is a thermally stable polycarboxylic acid that has been used as a sealant. Octatetracontane has a high melting point, making it useful for applications such as radiation-damaged polymeric matrices and in the preparation of esters. Octatetracontane is also used as an anti-microbial agent to treat microbial infections. It was found to be effective in killing microbes by damaging their cell walls. The lamellar phase of octatetracontane contains nitrogen atoms that can be released and form crosslinks with proteins, which allows it to act as a clotting agent and sealant.
