Nalidixic acid ethyl ester is an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and preventing transcription. It has been shown to be active against a wide range of microorganisms, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasmae, chlamydiae, rickettsiae, fungi, viruses, and protozoa. Nalidixic acid ethyl ester is synthesized from nalidixic acid or meglumine salt and the corresponding alcohol. This product is purified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to greater than 99% purity.
