It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, with an MIC of 0.1%. 3,5,5-Trimethylhexyl Acetate is able to permeate cell membranes and cause bacterial death by inhibiting protein synthesis. This compound has been shown to be effective against conspecifics and triploid diploids in plutella xylostella. 3,5,5-Trimethylhexyl Acetate also shows bactericidal effects against Origanum vulgare and can be used as an insecticide for control of aphids on crops.
