1-Benzofuran-5-amine is an organic solvent that is used as a synthetic intermediate in the synthesis of quinoline derivatives and methoxy groups. It has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. 1-Benzofuran-5-amine can be used as an antimicrobial agent in oral baths (e.g., foot bath) at concentrations of 15 mg/l or higher, with a contact time of 20 minutes or longer.
