Bromochloroacetonitrile is a chemical substance with the molecular formula CHBrClCN. It is a by-product of trichloroacetic acid production, which is used in the manufacture of plastics, herbicides and pesticides. Bromochloroacetonitrile has shown cytotoxic potency against CD-1 mice, as well as genotoxic activity in vitro. This compound also has acidic properties. Bromochloroacetonitrile can be analyzed using an analytical method that relies on matrix effect or solid phase microextraction. Bromochloroacetonitrile was found to be toxic to aquatic organisms at low concentrations and may cause harm to humans when exposed in large doses.
