Descrizione:Urushiol is a skin irritant that belongs to the family of natural compounds. It is found in plants such as poison ivy, oak, and sumac. Urushiol has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial functions and cause significant cytotoxicity in cultured cells. This compound also inhibits the growth of human cancer cells by binding to the surface of the cell membrane and activating toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2). Urushiol can be considered a potential biomarker for wastewater treatment because it can bind to organic matter in wastewater and then be removed through oxidation.
