Descrizione:Vps34-PIK-III is a molecule that is involved in lipid metabolism. It has been shown to promote neuronal cell death and induce cancer in mice. Vps34-PIK-III has also been shown to be effective against choroidal neovascularization, the development of new blood vessels in the eye that can cause blindness, through inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This molecule is currently being tested as an anticancer drug for leukemia. Vps34-PIK-III inhibits autophagy and causes iron homeostasis disorders by inhibiting ferritin synthesis. The pharmacological effects of Vps34-PIK-III have been studied in clinical trials on leukemic mice and human cells that were derived from leukemia patients.
