Pterosin D is a monophosphate-activated protein kinase activator that has been shown to reduce the rate of glycolysis and glucose uptake in cells. It has been shown to have antidiabetic effects in mice and rats. In addition, Pterosin D has shown anticarcinogenic effects in vitro and in vivo with the potential for use as an anti-cancer agent. It also inhibits growth of bacteria by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby inhibiting transcription and replication. Pterosin D has been validated using uptake assays which show significant inhibition of bacterial growth. The chemical formula for Pterosin D is C21H30O4N2O2P.
