• Descrizione: Apium p-hydroxyphenethyl trans-ferulate (HPT) is a natural product that has been isolated from the perennial herb Apium graveolens. HPT has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro at low concentrations and induce apoptosis in some cancer cell lines. HPT also inhibits fatty acid synthesis in murine hepatoma cells, suggesting that it may be hepatoprotective. HPT has also been found to exhibit antioxidant activity and inhibit lipid peroxidation in vitro, although this effect was not observed in vivo. HPT inhibits the growth of human liver cancer cells by upregulating endogenous anti-apoptotic proteins, Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, which are known to regulate the mitochondrial membrane potential and suppress apoptosis.
