Descrizione:Exemestane is an aromatase inhibitor that inhibits the production of estrogen in postmenopausal women. It is used to treat breast cancer and advanced prostate cancer. Exemestane binds to the hetrochromic region of the aromatase enzyme, blocking its access to the substrate, which is necessary for conversion of testosterone to estradiol. Inhibition of aromatase leads to decreased levels of estrogens and a decrease in estrogen-dependent symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. Exemestane also has been shown to have a beneficial effect on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.Exemestane has been approved by the FDA for use in breast cancer treatment and advanced prostate cancer treatment since 1998.
