Elliotinol is a fatty acid that has been shown to have activity against skin cancer cells. The activity of the compound was determined in an activity test using human cancer cells with and without Elliotinol. This drug seems to work by binding to fatty acid esters, which are found in high concentrations on the surface of cancer cells. Elliotinol may be able to inhibit tumor growth by binding to these fatty acid esters, which prevents them from being used as energy sources for tumor cells. Elliotinol also appears to bind to undescribed molecular targets on the surface of cancer cells, leading to decreased cell proliferation and increased apoptosis (cell death).
