Pentaerythritol tetrakis(2-mercaptoacetate) is a liquid crystal composition that is used as an initiator for polymerization of monomers. It can be used in the preparation of coatings, gels, and resins. Pentaerythritol tetrakis(2-mercaptoacetate) can also form ester compounds with other substances. When heated to high temperatures, it emits light and causes radiation damage to cells. This compound has been shown to have binding constants for chloride ions, calcium ions, and magnesium ions.
