Ethyl quinoline-4-carboxylate is a chloride that has been used as an activating agent for the preparation of quinoline derivatives. Ethyl quinoline-4-carboxylate is an effective activator for the preparation of both symmetric and asymmetric quinolines. It also has affinity towards electron-deficient alkenes and can be used to prepare a variety of potential drugs, including anti-tumour agents, analgesics, antihistamines, antibiotics, and antifungals. This compound can be prepared by reacting ethoxycarbonyl chloride with alcohols or biomolecules.
