Descrizione:9-Methoxy-α-lapachone (9ML) is a natural product that has been isolated from plants. It has potent inhibitory activity against conformational changes in acetylcholine. 9ML inhibits the interaction of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase with its substrate, acetylcholine. This inhibition prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine and leads to an accumulation of this neurotransmitter. 9ML also shows significant inhibitory activity against viruses such as HIV, and is able to neutralize their infectivity. The specific mechanisms by which 9ML interacts with virus are not known but may be due to its ability to inhibit hydrogen peroxide release or antigen presentation.
