Corianin is a novel synthetic sesquiterpene lactone that exhibits anti-inflammatory properties. It inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. Corianin also inhibits the production of prostaglandins in skin tissue and has shown antibacterial activity against Musca domestica (house fly) larvae. The anti-inflammatory properties of corianin are due to its carbonyl group, which induces the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from the mitochondria. This process leads to cell death by oxidative stress.
