Protein 4E-BP1 has been shown to regulate the translation of mRNA by binding to the eIF4E initiation factor, which is required for translation in cells. Protein 4E-BP1 is also involved in autophagy, which is a process of self-degradation that cells use to destroy damaged or unnecessary cellular components.
