Aloeresin is a drug derived from the plant aloes, which is used to treat various types of cancer. It has been shown to have genotoxic effects on fibroblast cells, and has been found to inhibit tumor growth in subcutaneous tumors. Aloesin is known to inhibit the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins, as well as inducing metabolic disorders such as hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and cataracts. Aloesin also inhibits the activity of enzymes such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA topoisomerase II, and RNA polymerase II. The optimum concentration for aloesin is not yet known.
