Benzoylpaeoniflorin is a flavone that has been extracted from the root of Paeoniae Radix (peony). It inhibits the activity of monoamine oxidase, which is an enzyme that breaks down monoamines such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine in the brain. Benzoylpaeoniflorin also possesses hypoglycemic properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and antioxidant activities. This compound has been shown to be effective in treating coronary heart diseases and autoimmune diseases. A surface methodology was used to analyze the chemical composition of this extract. Matrix effect was observed when benzoylpaeoniflorin was mixed with myeloma cell line.
