Research on 1-chloro-3,5-di-O-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2-deoxy-D-ribofuranose has shown that this compound has high antibacterial activity against a broad spectrum of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. In addition to its role as an antibacterial agent, this compound can also be used as a research reagent for the detection of genetic mutations in bacteria.
