Diethofencarb is an anthelmintic drug that acts by inhibiting the synthesis of energy in the worms' cells. It inhibits a number of enzymes, such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase, phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, and fatty acid synthase. Diethofencarb has been shown to be effective against wild-type strains of nematodes and dry weight in Sprague Dawley rats. The effects of diethofencarb on the worm's energy metabolism have been studied using a matrix effect approach. This technique can be used for the detection and identification of synergistic interactions between two or more drugs.
