L-371,257 is a novel and potent oxytocin receptor antagonist. It prevents the activation of the oxytocin receptor by binding to it, thereby blocking the effects of oxytocin on the heart and other organs. In humans, L-371,257 has been shown to inhibit ventricular myocyte apoptosis induced by all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) or beta-adrenergic stimulation. L-371,257 also prevents atosiban-induced pancreatic dysfunction in mice.
