The model system used for this compound was the human liver, which showed that a-homonojirimycin had a potent inhibitory activity against these enzymes. This drug also has a dry weight of 1,520 g/mol and an effective dose of 0.01 mg/mL. In vitro studies have shown that a-homonojirimycin inhibits influenza virus by binding to the hemagglutinin protein on the surface of the virus and preventing its attachment to host cells.
