Vabicaserin hydrochloride is a potent and selective 5-HT2C receptor antagonist. It is used as a treatment for obesity, type 2 diabetes, or neuropathic pain due to its effects on the serotonergic system. This drug inhibits the production of glucose by inhibiting the sodium-dependent glucose transporter in rat liver microsomes. Vabicaserin hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the activity of 5-HT1A receptors in vitro assays and has an inhibitory effect on infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases. This drug also increases dopamine release in striatal tissues via inhibition of dopamine reuptake.
