The antiviral activity of this compound has been shown by its ability to inhibit the replication of influenza A virus. Methyl 2-deoxy-L-ribofuranoside is a fluorinating agent that can be used for the synthesis of oligosaccharides and nucleosides. This intermediate also serves as a substrate for a number of organic reactions, including regioselective and stereoselective chlorination.
